Your powerful tool for knee surgery

Plan with mediCAD 3D Knee on the basis of X-ray images, CT, MRI and DVT and WBCT images. Individually or in a hybrid combination.

    The most important features

    General

    • generate a 3D model from a CT, DVT and MRI data set
    • Visualisation of the soft tissues, compact and cancellous bone depending on the soft tissue contrast of the CT based on houndsfield units.
    • Leg axis in 3D in Dror Paley’s nomenclature (mLDFA, JLCA, CORA etc.)

    Patellofemoral

    • Patellar height (Caton-Dechamps, Albrecht Biedert etc.) and axial measurements such as TT-TG, TT-PCL, trochlear depth, lateral trochlear inclination for the evaluation of all common patellar instability scores.

    Osteotomy

    • Osteotomy workflow (DFO/HTO, double-level) with auto landmark detection, correction proposal, incision placement and automatic correction on the whole-leg stand X-ray (AO approved)
    • Single cut / rotational osteotomy for the correction of torsion, leg axis and TT-TG in one procedure on the torsionCT/MRI
    • Templating of osteosynthesis plates in 2D and 3D

    Knie-TEP

    • Resection workflow on partial knee, long legs as well as a combination of both with a WBCT (Weight bearing) in a hybrid plan
    • Revision planning with artefact reduction of the primary implant. The revision implant can be overlayed with a heat map to highlight the bone contact of the implant
    • Templating of endoprostetics in 2D and 3D at the same time. Insert the CT/MRI slice as a plane into the 3D model of the joint to get the best overview of its ligamentous surroundings

    Fractures

    • Imaging of all kinds of fracture CTs which allows a manual segmentation as well as a reduction of the fracture fragments

Patellofemoral measurements for patella instability scores

mediCAD 3D Knee creates an informative 3D model from axial CT or MRI  stacks. Depending on the soft tissue contrast and slice thickness of the CT, muscle, ligaments and even the patient’s skin can be depicted.

This 3D model provides a good indication of patellar tracking as well as the course of the patellar tendon at the knee and its lateralisation, as well as bony deformities

    Determine all stability factors of the patella;

    • Patellar height (Insall-Salvati, Caton-Dechamps, Blackburne-Peel, patellotrochlear index according to Albrecht and Biedert)
    • Femoral, tibial and whole leg torsion, knee version
    • TT-TG, TT-PCL, Patella Shift, Patella Tilt
    • Trochlear dysplasia: trochlear depth, lateral trochlear inclination, sulcus angle

Single cut / Derotations – Osteotomie

The mediCAD 3D Knee software supports osteotomies in correcting complex deformities in all planes (leg axis, torsion, patella tracking, tibial slope, etc.).

    HTO/DFO AO approved

mediCAD 3D Knee includes an osteotomy workflow that posseses automatic landmark detection, recommended surgery as well as an automatic incision placement.

Developed with the DCP Task Force of the AO Trauma Technical Commission it leaves the expert the option to follow or leave workflow and plan manually.

    Knee joint replacement

The total or partial knee replacement can be planned on an X-ray of the knee, a whole leg as well as on a CT or MRI. The leg axis provides the basis for planning the resection heights.

mediCAD 3D Knee has a large database of unicondylar, bicondylar, modular, revision and tumour prostheses. With the stems, augments and offset adapters it offers a compatibility mode that only accepts parts that have been marked compatible by the manufactures and helps to properly assemble them.

    Revision planning

Plan your revision prostheses on a CT after the artifact reduction and masking of the primary implants. Specifically avoid the errors from the primary implantation. Check the fit of the revision implants on the structure of the bone, using a heat map visualisation of the bony contact.

    Templating

The templating of implants as well as plates, screws and nails is part of the core competence of mediCAD and has played the main role since the company was founded.

However, we have come a long way since the « light box with pen and paper » and we are now talking about an elaborate digital workflow for planning that saves time and keeps the process audit proof.
