Digitization in orthopaedic surgery

mediCAD® OR is a digital templating software that streamlines workflow for orthopedists by digitally displaying surgical planning data in the operating room and matching it with intraoperative images.

This complete digitization of orthopedic surgery offers the opportunity to check the planning intraoperatively so orthopedic surgeons can implement necessary corrections to all surgical steps immediately during the operation. In addition, less experienced doctors benefit by getting the necessary support and security with mediCAD® OR. The need for revisions is reduced, leading to enhanced quality, safety, and patient outcomes.

mediCAD® OR has been developed in cooperation with Siemens Healthineers for the C-Arm Cios Spin.

The functionality of mediCAD OR

The preoperative planning data created with mediCAD 3D or 2D can be loaded onto a C-arm using required network permissions. In turn, the C-arm creates a live intraoperative 2D image. Then, mediCAD® OR merges the information from the two imaging systems (2D and 3D). This calibration is usually a preoperative 3D planning and an intraoperative 2D image created by the C-arm. As a result of this innovative hybrid matching, the preoperative planning data is compared with the actual condition during the operation in real time.

This is why mediCAD® OR offers the possibility to visualize the target-actual comparison live in the operation room, and offers the opportunity to adjust the surgical steps according to the planning.

Comparison of the actual state with the planning: The live image in the operating room matches the planning image and charting the surgical procedure can be objectively assessed and adjusted if necessary.
Exports the patient data directly to a PAC system.

This complete digitization of orthopedic surgery allows the doctor to check their planning intraoperatively so any corrections to the surgical steps can be made immediately during the operation. The level of patient care is increased and the need for follow-up operations is reduced.

mediCAD® OR is currently in the development process. All mediCAD® 3D modules will additionally be available as OR modules in the future for orthopedic practices and healthcare providers.
